Forskolin Plant

Forskolin is an extract of coleus forskohlii root, a plant that power up to gain international prominence after being discovered its properties.

Forskolin acts mainly via activation of adenylate cyclase enzyme, which results in an increase of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (AMP) in cells. AMP belongs to a class of substances known as “second messengers” of compounds and is one of the most important cells regulatory. It activates numerous enzymes involved in various cellular functions.

Hormones and neurotransmitters also activate adenylate cyclase, but forskolin seems to be able to activate adenylate cyclase by itself. Thus, Forskolin can increase AMP without the aid of hormones or neurotransmitters.

In vitro studies show that the Forskolin stimulates lipolysis (breakdown of fat) in fat cells. In addition, researchers at Penn State University College of Medicine found that many obese people have a lower production of AMP. Based on these results and in vitro studies, scientists have theorized that forskolin can be an effective weight-loss agent, especially for those with decreased AMP production.

In a recent study, six overweight women took Forskolin twice daily for eight weeks. At the end of the study, participants viewed reduced their body fat by about 10%. Blood pressure levels also tended to decline during the investigation. These preliminary results indicate that Forskolin can be a useful supplement to lose weight and maintain normal body function.

Forskolin can burn excess fats

Weight gain results from the excess of accumulated fat in unwanted areas of the body. Forskolin gained notoriety after Dr. Oz promotes their effects in breaking down stored fats. It may also free fatty acids from adipose tissue, increasing thermogenesis, leading to a loss of body fat, and theoretically, the increase of lean body mass.
