Hair

Biotin, or vitamin H is one of the known vitamins B complex that play an important role in the proper functioning of organism. These essential nutrients convert food into energy, maintaining stable body throughout the day. But beyond helping metabolism, biotin has been related to strengthening nails and hair.

Although there are not many studies which show the effects of this vitamin in hair growth, there is evidence that its lack leads to hair drop. Similarly, biotin also helps to prevent brittle nails.

The finding that biotin supplements were effective in treating abnormalities in hoof horses and pigs has led to speculation that they are also useful to humans. Three trials have examined the effects of biotin supplementation (2.5 mg daily for 6 months) in women with brittle nails. Two of these studies showed an improvement between 67% and 91%. Microscopic analysis carried out in order to assess the thickness of the nail showed that it’s increased by 25%.

These studies led renowned dermatologists, as certified by the American Board of Dermatology (ABD) Susan Stuart, to consider the importance of supplements, “although hair loss and brittle nails have several causes, taking biotin supplements can really stop this process and even reverse it.”

Benefits of biotin in hair and nails

Biotin may play an important role in the growth and maintenance of hair and nails. Who has a biotin deficiency, will usually experience hair loss and brittle nails, so take supplements of this vitamin can help stop this process. In many cases, taking a biotin supplement can even help stimulate new hair and nail growth.

Biotin and blood sugar levels

Biotin plays an important role in the production of glucose in the blood. Is strongly involved in carbohydrate breakdown in the body and is largely responsible for keeping blood sugar at healthy levels. For those suffering from diabetes, a biotin supplement can be a way to get the blood sugar levels to properly function values.

Biotin metabolism

Biotin is essential for metabolic processes. This vitamin processes almost all types of food, including carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Although there is no scientific evidence biotin supplements can accelerate the loss of weight due to its effects on the metabolic levels.
